年初からイベントが重なり宮城県石巻市から岩手県大船渡市までの海岸を北上してきました。リアス海岸の奥まった土地では東日本大震災の爪痕がまだそのままのところも多くあり、復興の地域差を目の当たりにしました。一方、自然の偉大さ素晴らしさを改めて感じさせられました。短期間ではありましたが、三陸を見つめ直すいい時間を得ることができました。
Thanks to several business events on the beginning of the new year, I got an opportunity to travel north from Ishinomaki, Miyagi Pref. to Ofunato, Iwate Pref. along Sanriku ria coast. There are still found many traces of the tsunami due to the Great East Japan Earthquake 2011 in the small secluded villages in the ria coast i.e. area differences of reconstruction. On the other hand, there were newly felt the vastness and the grandeur of nature. Though it was a short trip, it was nice time for me to review Sanriku Coast region.

サンファンバウティスタ号 The San Juan Bautista
伊達政宗の命を受けて支倉常長他慶長遣欧使節団がスペインに向かった船を再現したものです。スペインにはハポネス(日本)姓の子孫が住む町があるとか。
About 400 years ago, Hasekura Tsunenaga and his party made a voyage to Europe with the San Juan Bautista under the order of Date Masamune, then Tohoku region's domain lord. It is told that there is a town in Spain where the descendants with cognominal "Japones" live.

地元の方が岸壁で釣り糸を垂れていました。波際には、岩から剥がしたような平たい石。これが硯に使われる雄勝石？
There are found many flat stones on the beach. Wondering if these stones are processed into "Suzuri", Japanese ink stone.

I hear that they are constructing coastal concrete levee of over 9 meters.

「かもめの玉子」で有名な、さいとう製菓は大船渡にありました。
Saito Seika's Factory, famous for "Kamome no Tamago", an egg-like Japanese cake is located in Ofunato, Iwate Pref.
